    The Christmas Feast!

We were excited to receive news of the Christmas Celebration that was enjoyed by kids and staff at the ACFI mission schools, and are happy to be able to pass it on to you!  Rather than try to write it in my own words, I thought it might be nice for you to read it as it was sent to us – by Queen, our sponsorship coordinator in Liberia.  Enjoy!

"Merry Christmas!!  You should have been here to see the excitement of Christmas on the faces of everyone. On Christmas Eve, the mothers went shopping for the celebration. On Christmas day, a short service was held, follow by the preparation of food and the students from both mission homes were very excited about the party.

The party started with prayers, the story of Jesus' birth, Christmas songs and the serving was done. After eating, gifts were distributed; the gifts were: bath towels, underpants, belts, socks, biscuits, lollipops, etc.

In Liberia, every Christmas is the time of excitement, even though other holidays are. Most Liberians go to church on this day and worship for at least 45 mins to an hour. After the service on this day, mothers cook very quickly and share meal with the neighbors, girls/boys hair is style or cut, they are dressed in clothes parents bought as gifts, people then eat, visit families, watch movies about the birth of Jesus. After all these things are done, the day comes to an end. The next day after Christmas is very tedious, there are lot of dishes to be washed, lot of plastics and papers to be swept, and many other chores to be done in and around the yard. This is the movement of a typical Liberian on Christmas day.

Hope you celebrated yours very well."

The children enjoyed their Christmas feast!
Christmas is celebrated with much joy and excitement in Liberia.  It is so special for the kids to have a large meal including meat and popcorn and juice in addition to their typical church services!  Thank you to those of you who contributed to make this possible and to those who prayed for their enjoyment of it!  There is an online album of pictures from the celebration at this link if you’d like to check out more!

    Other quick updates:

Children should be returning to resume regular school classes and normal life by the end of the month.

Wonderful progress is being made by ACFI on the security fence at the School for the Deaf.  Three walls have been completed, and work is being done now to complete the final wall.  As soon as the project is done, we will include a photo in a monthly newsletter!

Funds are currently being raised for a second container to be shipped to ACFI in Liberia as soon as possible. Food and hygiene supplies are still difficult to come by, and outside help is still vital.  So far, there is enough funding for rice and shipping costs. They are trying to raise several thousand more dollars to add more food and hygiene products to the container.  If you would like to contribute to this effort, please follow this link and donate to "Ebola assistance."  Click here to donate!
