Security Fence at the Deaf Mission

    February 2015 Newsletter

On a bright and beautiful 30-degree winter day in Minnesota, it is a lovely thought to remember the palm trees and heat of Liberia on past trips. Though, if I’m honest I’d have to admit that while I was there in the high heat and humidity, I was dreaming of the crisp winter days of Minnesota! Hopefully, winter is finding you full of abundant life, hope, and great joy and purpose in Christ, no matter what weather or circumstances you are facing!

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”  2 Corinthians 9:8

We only have a few updates for this newsletter:

Students in their school uniforms (taken in May 2014)

*With the government-issued “State of Emergency” now lifted, schools in Liberia will officially start back up on February 16th, and both ACFI schools will resume at that time. It will be wonderful for children who are able to attend school to get back to something routine and normal after such a difficult time facing the ebola outbreak.

*The fence at the Deaf Mission, which will provide some security for the children and for food storage, is almost finished. The goal is to have it done when school starts on the 16th of the month.

*ACFI has packed a 2nd container of food, which should get the schools through this semester of school on strong footing. We're extremely grateful for the churches and individual families who have donated to both containers. It has helped to ensure that this crisis was temporary, and that the students and caretakers can resume a close to normal way of life at the mission schools. Thank you!!

*ACFI will be collecting books, computers, and other school materials for another container to ship to Liberia in about a month.  These items will go towards the Deaf Mission Trade School and the ACFI College.  If sponsors have materials to donate or know of organizations that might, they can connect with ACFI through the contact information on their website: or send it to their US office at: ACFI, 303 N. Main St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

*You are also welcome to send a 9"x12" envelope for your child to go in the container filled with things like letters, pictures, school or personal supplies, non-perishable snacks and candies, and stickers or small trinkets. Please send it to the address just mentioned. On the back, include your sponsored child's name and whether they are at Daniel Hoover Children's Village School or The Oscar and Viola Stewart School for the Deaf along with your name. The deadline to receive all packages is March 7th.

Thank you so much for your continued support for the children at the mission homes! May the Lord bless you greatly as you obey him in whatever way he calls you!

    With JOY,
