    Gbolu - May 2012

This summer update is sprinkled with joy and sadness. Life is just that way... God stands with us in our joy just as he stands with us in our pain. He is faithful, and he is the same yesterday, today and forever. We desire to trust him in all things, for he is trustworthy.

We received word that a little girl from Daniel Hoover passed away after going to stay with her mother for the summer. She caught malaria and was taken to a hospital where she died on July 26th. Some of you knew Gbolu from time spent in Liberia. She was very outgoing, had a huge contagious smile, and loved playing with her friends. My whole family got to know her when we were in Liberia in 2011. She would come to the porch with her friends, and we would all play games... lappa, or the hand-clapping kind that kids often play. She was a joy to be around, and we all remember her fondly.

Though I try not to, I take a lot of things for granted. One of those things is healthy children; full of life and future hopes. Though I know tragic things happen everywhere, Gbolu's death was a reminder to me that Liberia sees so much more of it than we can even imagine here in America. Having clean water, nutritious food, and the ability to afford medical care means we face much less preventable death among our friends and family. It made me want to express my gratefulness to you, our sponsors and supporters, for being a part of giving care to the kids at the mission homes. The reality is that we cannot stop all of the sicknesses and we cannot prevent little lives like Gbolu's from coming to an end, but we can be faithful in what God has asked of us... and that does make a difference to many, many children. Please pray for Gbolu's family, friends, and the caretakers at Daniel Hoover who will miss her very much.
Here is a link to a video clip she was in with Olive, who many of you will also remember.

Anniversary Celebration at Daniel Hoover Village

Several celebrations have taken place this summer in Liberia. This July 26th was Independence Day where they celebrated 166 years as an independent republic. Special meals and ceremonies are held throughout the country on that day. Another celebration was the Daniel Hoover Village Mission's Anniversary. It was celebrated at Dixville, and commemorated that Daniel Hoover Village was built and dedicated on August 4, 2002.

Becky Lloyd's team has returned from Liberia, where they ministered to deaf students at the Oscar and Viola Stewart School for the Deaf . They delivered the sponsors' packages for both mission homes, which were either given to the children or will be held until the children return for school if they were able to go stay with a relative during the summer break. Another individual who has invested into the lives of the kids in Liberia is Katie Klein, who is currently staying at Daniel Hoover to minister to the children as God leads her. Continue to pray for her to be greatly used by the Lord, for health and safety until her months there come to an end.

Project Hope Update - $14,720 has been committed so far to the $30,000 goal for Project Hope 2013. We are thrilled at the progress and thankful for all who have donated so sacrificially. We will continue to work towards the October goal for completing the fundraising.  For more information on Project Hope 2013 and its goals, go to this link.

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." Hebrews 13:8

As summer eventually comes to a close and we head toward the changing of seasons, we pray that you would be blessed by Jesus... our unchanging One. Thank you for investing in the children of Liberia.

    With JOY,
    Corrie Luebke
    Sponsorship Coordinator
